The I-95 north ramp to I-85 south in Petersburg has now reopened to traffic after a tractor trailer overturned.
The new traffic configuration will address safety and road capacity needs to reduce crashes and congestion.
These nighttime lane closures are due to paving of a new, third lane on Eastbound Route 60.
The left and center lanes are closed near the exit to I-64 east (mile marker 75.6) on I-95 north.
The crash happened around 2:30 a.m.
The accident caused major power outages in the area, though power has been restored.
Commuters on Interstate 95 experienced major backups Friday morning.
The driver took off after the accident.
The accident happened in the 2300 block of West Hundred Road at about 11:11 p.m. Thursday.
Nine people were transported to area hospitals. The extent of the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route until further notice.
Virginia State Police say the accident happened around 3:27 a.m. on I-295 south at Exit 9.
The driver was rushed to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
No one was injured and police say the crash is now clear of the roadway.
VDOT says demolition will begin in mid-April.
The accident has been cleared.
