RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Back at the Stu for what should be a big test for the VCU Rams. The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders for Conference USA come in with their 10-1 record to face the 7-3 Rams.

This will be the sixth meeting between the two schools. MTSU leads the series 3-2; VCU won last season’s meeting 62-56 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Tonight’s starters: JeQuan Lewis, Justin Tillman, Jonathan Williams, Mo Alie-Cox, Jordan Burgess.

17:20 — Lewis opens the game with 5 points and a steal. VCU 5 — MTSU 0.

4:14 — MTSU has crawled back into this game (with the help of some questionable calls). VCU 31 — MTSU 29.

Stat Line: Lewis, despite having foul trouble, leads all Rams with eight points. Burgess and Jenkins each have seven. VCU shot 44 percent from the three-point line and 44 percent from the field.

3:45 — Lewis for 3. VCU 69 — MTSU 65.

Final: VCU 80 — MTSU 77.

POG: Lewis had 20 points in only 21 minutes but Samir Doughty really stepped up tonight by hitting two late free throws on his way to a 14 point, four assist night. Enjoy the moment.

Final Thoughts: It was about as close as you get to tournament atmosphere in December here at the Stu. Make no bones about it — this is by far, VCU’s best win and most complete game. VCU had a fast start, grinded it out all game, and despite poor officiating, VCU hung on and finished a game.
