Crews back on scene of brush fire on I-95 in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va., (WRIC) — Crews are back on scene of a brush fire on Interstate 95 Monday morning.

According to VDOT, crews are working to put out hot spots on I-95 at MM 61, which is south of Route 10 in Chesterfield. The north right lane and right shoulder are closed. Drivers should expect backups from Ruffin Mill Road to Rt. 10.

Crews will also be addressing additional hot spots on Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Temple Ave. and Rt. 10. Drivers should expect alternating lane closures and delays in the area.

On Sunday afternoon, Chesterfield firefighters battled several small brush fires along I-95 North from Temple Ave and Rt. 10. Smoke covered nearly seven miles of the roadway.

Chesterfield Fire had six engines on scene, as well as tanker trucks, brush trucks and a ladder truck.

“Each engine carries 750 gallons of their own water but obviously this was beyond those capabilities, so we had to bring tank trucks full of water,” Greg McCarraher with Chesterfield Fire and EMS told 8News.

Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fires.

There were no injuries or private property damage reported.
