RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Thomas Jefferson Vikings felt like they would score every time they had the ball Friday afternoon, the only question was who would take the ball across the goal line. The Vikings nearly accomplished that feat, thanks to quarterback Anwar Wilson-Bradley and running back Jalen Jackson.
The two seniors put up obscene, Madden-caliber numbers against the Glen Allen Jaguars in a 55-49 win. Wilson-Bradley racked up 314 yards and four touchdowns, while Jackson tallied 295 yards and four touchdowns of his own.
Wilson-Bradley said film review showed the Jags had issues covering the read option, where the quarterback takes a shotgun snap, reads the opposing defensive end, and waits until the last possible moment before either keeping the ball or giving it to his running back. Jackson said almost every play was the read option, and almost every run went for double-digit yardage.
The Vikings are now 3-3 on the season with wins over the Jaguars, Greensville County, and Armstrong. Friday night they travel to Deep Run. A win would all but guarantee them a spot in the 3A Playoffs.
