Idlewood Avenue roundabout construction to begin in October

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Construction will soon begin on the Idlewood Avenue, Grayland Avenue, and the RMTA ramp roundabout project. The completion of the project will result in two-way traffic between Harrison street and Cherry street.  Weather permitting this project will last about 4 months.

The completion of the project will result in two-way traffic between Harrison street and Cherry street. Weather permitting, this project will last about four months.

The construction, which begins Oct. 4, will include landscaped Islands, pedestrian crosswalk markings, handicap ramps and new signage. The city of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University will be funding the $985,000 project.

These improvements are expected to lessen conflict points between vehicles and pedestrians by providing slower operation speeds for motorists, and also shortening the crossing distance. This is expected to decrease the number of accidents that have occurred in the area.

Due to the construction, some lanes will be closed and the I-195 off-ramp will be closed for three weekends. Drivers are encouraged to follow work zone signage.
