At the Box Office: ‘American Assassin’ & ‘Mother’

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Based on the best-selling books by Vince Flynn, “American Assassin” stars Dylan O’Brien as Mitch Rapp. After a terrorist attack robs him of a loved one, he plots his revenge. When the CIA learns of his plans, he’s recruited to work for the government as intelligence agents to try to uncover a plot against the U.S. The drama costars Michael Keaton, Sanaa Lathan and Taylor Kitsch. It’s rated R.

“Mother” stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem as a couple whose quiet life is about to get upended when strangers arrive at their farmhouse. Played by Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeifer, and Domhnall and Brian Gleeson, they throw the dynamic out of whack and push the story and film into horror territory. From the director of “Black Swan” and “Requiem for a Dream,” “Mother” is rated R.

Even with all that competition, “It” is expected to win the box office for a second straight weekend. It could make another $50 million dollars. We’re gonna check those box office numbers for you Monday morning on “Good Morning Richmond.”
