RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The latest AP Top 25 has the Virginia Tech Hokies rising from #18 to #16 after a shutout win over Delaware in their home opener Saturday. Meanwhile, the Virginia Cavaliers are coming off their first loss of the season to Indiana.
The Hokies hit the road for their first true road game Saturday at East Carolina. The Pirates have been pummeled by FCS James Madison and by West Virginia, the latter having dominated the first half to the tune of a 49-3 lead at the break. Justin Fuente still feels it’s tough to beat any team on the road in an on-campus stadium.
Virginia is looking for a measure of revenge Saturday. The Cavaliers are home for the third straight week as they try to get their first FBS win of the season. UConn comes to town with an extra week to prepare after their game with South Florida was canceled due to Hurricane Irma. Huskies beat Virginia 13-10 in Storrs in 2016.
