PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A red substance was discovered in a creek in Petersburg Sunday near the Pepsi plant on West High Street.
The substance was tested three different ways by authorities in the area and it was determined that the substance was not hazardous to public health or toxic.
Petersburg Fire officials said that the area is contained and that the investigation was turned over to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Samples of the substance were sent to the state government for additional testing. Test results should return within 24 hours.
