Gr8 Weekend Events: Soul Bowl, Wedding prep and a school-sponsored block party


Today you can go bowling for a good cause at “Soul Bowl Richmond.” They’ll also food and music, plus billiards and card games, and you’ll be raising money for different local charities and organizations. It’s from 9:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. at AMF Shrader Lanes on Shrader Road in Richmond.

The 27th annual Down Home Family Reunion is today. It’s hosted by the Elegba Folklore Society. The cultural arts festival features music, dance, stories, food, and shopping as you celebrate African American folk-life. It’s from 4 to 11 p.m., at Abner Clay Park in historic Jackson Ward, Richmond.

And the 15th “Seafood Splash” is today. They’ll have all you can eat blue crabs, shrimp, fish, chicken, and more, plus music and entertainment. It’s from noon to 7 p.m. at Hadad’s Lake on Osborne Turnpike in Henrico.


The Richmond Wedding Experience is today. It’s your chance to meet wedding vendors and see their work, plus taste delicious cakes, have a signature cocktail and find your perfect look in the runway fashion show. It’s from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

Join the Richmond Waldorf School for a neighborhood block party to celebrate their new location. It’s perfect for all ages. They’ll have snacks, live music, children’s activities, a children’s book giveaway, and school tours. It’s from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the school on Robin Hood Road in Richmond.

Want to cool down from the heat? Head over to hear the Richmond Concert Band play their “Winter in August” concert. They’ll play songs that will have you thinking about snow and sweaters. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic. It’s from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Age-Croft Hall in Richmond.
