At the Box Office: Creepy dolls, squirrels and a dysfunctional family flick

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Halloween is still months away, but horror is on the menu at the theaters this weekend.

Annabelle, the creepy, possessed doll, is back to cause more trouble. For “Annabelle: Creation” we learn how the doll came to be possessed. This prequel to the first movie finds Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto playing a couple overcome with grief after their daughter’s death. They offer shelter to several young girls from a catholic orphanage. That’s when Annabelle begins to terrify them all. The horror film, from the director of “Lights Out”, is rated R.

The animals of Liberty Park are back for a new adventure. Lead by Squirrely Squirrel, voiced again by Will Arnett, they are trying to stop the mayor’s plan to turn their lush park home into an amusement park. Costarring the voices of Jackie Chan and Maya Rudolph, “The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature” is rated PG.

“The Glass Castle” follows a dysfunctional family and its misadventures. Starring Oscar Winner Brie Larsen, it’s based on the best selling memoir by author Jeannette Walls. Costarring Woody Harrelson, its rated PG-13.

“Annabelle: Creation” is expected to win the weekend with somewhere around $30 Million in ticket sales.
