Henrico School Board member arrested for DUI also charged with refusing to take breath test

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Henrico County School Board member who was arrested and charged with DUI early Saturday morning is facing an additional charge.

According to court documents, Roscoe Dennis Cooper, 43, was also charged with refusing to take a breath test to determine the alcohol content in his blood.

Virginia State Police tell 8News they stopped Cooper on I-64 westbound, just west of the Gaskins Road exit, for driving in between two lanes. He was transported to Henrico County Jail and has since been released.

Beverly Cocke, chair of the Henrico County School Board, released the following statement to 8News:

Board members are aware of Mr. Cooper’s personal situation. We’ll be better able to respond once more details are available. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Cooper family at this time.”

Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon L. Taylor said her office has requested a special prosecutor from Powhatan County to handle the case.
