RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Former Richmond Police officer Charles Church is facing jail time on child sex charges.
Church was convicted on two counts on Thursday. He was also acquitted of two additional charges.
Church was accused in November 2015 of having sex with a 12-year-old. He was arrested two days after the alleged incident and was charged. Later that year, charges were withdrawn so that a federal child pornography case could proceed.
Those charges were then dismissed in February when the Federal judge ordered that evidence from Church’s electronic devices would not be allowed at trial because they were obtained illegally.
Church was with the Richmond Police Department for 12 years.
His formal sentencing will be on August 10.
