AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV/WRIC) — Female pilots are rare, making up only 6 percent of the workforce.
But a national organization is trying to change that in Virginia.
The group Women Can Fly is teaching young women how to load the cockpit, direct the air controls and fly.
This is video from Augusta County.
Their goal is to get more women into the sky.
“Somebody can solo when they’re 16 and get their license when they’re 17. I have people in their 50s and 60s learning to fly,” Cindy Ferek, a female pilot and instructor said.
Ferek says all women should consider becoming pilots, regardless of age.
