VCU Police looking for armed robbery suspect

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — VCU Police are investigating a reported robbery that happened around noon Friday in Richmond’s Carver neighborhood.

Police said that the victim of the robbery was assisting someone who he believed to be a homeless man. In the process of receiving $40 in cash, the suspect displayed a black handle that was protruding from his pocket and asked the victim, “why don’t you give me all of it?”

According to a police release, the suspect then fled the area in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The incident happened in the 600 block of Bowe Street sometime between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. in a private parking lot. This is very close to the Lowes and the Kroger stores located off of Broad Street.

Police describe the suspect as a light-skin, black male with a “scruffy” mustache and beard. Police said the suspect is about 5’9″ and was wearing a torn white T-shirt and dark-colored shorts at the time of the incident.

Richmond police are leading the investigation.

Police said that it can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the community. Police have increased patrols in this area.
