Small apartment fire marked under control in Richmond’s southside

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond fire crews were called to fight a small apartment fire Saturday morning south of the river.

When crews arrived in the 5800 block of Westower Drive shortly after 9 a.m., they found a small fire in the apartment’s rear.

They now believe that the fire began with a malfunctioning air conditioner unit and spread.

Fortunately, everyone made it out safely, and the fire was marked under control by 9:45 a.m.

It is not clear at this time how many residents lived in the apartment, or whether they will be displaced.
