Petersburg non-profit teaches self-defense to build confidence in girls

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — More than a dozen young ladies in Petersburg are learning self-defense. It’s thanks to a group known as Girls for a Change.

The non-profit offers educational programs to build confidence in African-American girls and other girls of color.

“For the life of girls, anything is possible,” said coach Porshia Foster. “We can innovate our communities and actually change the world.”

The young ladies in Girls for a Change are preparing for a two-week residential camp.

The group is open to girls in kindergarten up to grade twelve.
