Colonial Heights Police charge man in Chick-Fil-A parking lot armed robbery

Police charged Keynan Malik Copeland, 18, from Hopewell with attempted armed robbery and various other charges in connection with the incident.

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Colonial Heights Police recently arrested a man and charged him with armed robbery in connection with an incident that happened at a Chick-Fil-A restaurant last week.

Colonial Heights Police said that Keynan Malik Copeland, 18, of Hopewell approached a man in the parking lot of the Chick-Fil-A located in the 600 block of Southpark Boulevard on June 29 at about 11:15 p.m.

Police said that Copeland displayed a handgun and attempted to steal his motorcycle.

A struggle ensued between the victim and Copeland, during which the victim was struck in the face and head with a weapon.

The victim was able to fend off Copeland who then fled on foot on Southpark Boulevard.

Shortly thereafter, a patrol officer who was canvassing the area found Copeland and placed him into custody without further incident.

Police have since charged Copeland with attempted robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, preventing a person from contacting 911, and abduction. Mr. Copeland remains incarcerated at Riverside Regional Jail pending his next court date on September 27, 2017 in Colonial Heights General District Court.
