Gr8 Weekend Events: Hanover Tomato Festival, Maymont Glow, RVA Unity Day and more

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Looking for something to do this weekend? Whitney Harris has got the scoop on what’s going on in Central Virginia.

SATURDAY

Serving them up juicy, red, ripe and delicious–that’s right we’re talking tomatoes. Head on over to the Hanover Tomato Festival Saturday. They’ll have food, hundreds of vendors, live music, a petting zoo plus rides and games for kids. The Hanover Tomatoes will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville located at 8996 Pole Green Park Lane.

Feeling zen, calm, cool and collected? If you like yoga and dogs check out DOGa. Humble Haven Yoga is partnering with the Richmond Animal Care and Control for the event. There will be adoptable shelter dogs for you to do yoga with and you can bring your own dog too. It’s from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on South 13th Street in Richmond.

Also, stop by Maymont Glow. They’re opening the gates after hours to celebrate summer in a new light. You can bring your family out for the three mile fun-run and walk. Wear your best glow outfit for a chance to win prizes. The event is being held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Maymont Park located at 1700 Hampton Street in Richmond.

SUNDAY

Check out RVA Unity Day. This is a community wide family reunion. There will be free food, a DJ, arts and crafts, tours of fire trucks, a puppy park with adoptable puppies, a health clinic and more. Last year they had more than 1,000 people come out and this year they hope to double it. The event is at Byrd Park from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m located at 700 South Davis Avenue in Richmond.

Stop by the second annual Love on Tap. This event is to benefit Va. Pride. There will be food, live music and a local LGBT owned vendor pop up market. They will also be introducing the 2017 Virginia Pride Beer Collaboration. Make sure you head on over between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery on 2408-2410 Ownby Lane in Richmond.

Workout for a cause with the Girls on the Run Charity Ride. You can head over to the Boho Cycle Studio for a 50-minute ride to support Girls on the Run which is a non-profit helping girls be healthy and happy through fun runs. The class starts at 11:15 a.m. on 714 North Sheppard Street in Richmond.
