STAFFORD, Va. (WRIC) — Sheriff’s deputies in Stafford County arrested an armed robbery suspect following a police chase on July 4.
The suspect robbed a Shell gas station on Warrenton Road just after noon and then led police on a chase along Rt. 3 in Spotsylvania County.
The store clerk told police the suspect entered the gas station, bought two packs cigarettes, went to the bathroom and then came out demanding money from the cash register with a gun in hand.
The suspect took the money and then hopped into a gray sedan with Pennsylvania license plate before leaving the scene. The clerk gave the plate number to the deputies.
The vehicle was last spotted heading southbound on I-95. The suspect initiated a chase down Rt. 3 before being stopped by deputies and a citizen at a local SONIC restaurant. A deputy blocked the exit of the SONIC and a citizen managed to block the vehicle from exiting the drive-thru area.
Police arrested the suspect, was identified as 25-year-old Mark Francis Lahive, Jr. of Bellwood, Pennsylvania, shortly thereafter. He was charged with one count of robbery, one count of brandishing a firearm, one count of grand larceny, one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of felony eluding and one count of DUI.
Deputies later found out that Lahive was wanted out of Altoona, Pa. on two robbery charges. He is currently being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
