CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — What goes up will come down, police say, and the consequences could be tragic. That’s why the Chesterfield County Police Department is reminding residents of the dangers of celebratory gunfire ahead of the holiday weekend.

Police are still investigating an incident in which 7-year-old Brendan Mackey was killed after being struck by a bullet before a fireworks display at Swift Creek Reservoir in Chesterfield County on July 4, 2013. Police believe the round that struck Mackey was fired randomly into the air, likely from a distance.

Police continue to seek information related to Brendon Mackey’s death. Anyone with information should contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660 or through the P3 app.
