Henrico County issues 9 criminal summonses against owners of Essex Village Apartments

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County has issued nine criminal summonses against the owners of the Essex Village Apartments.

The summonses accuse Essex VA Investors LLC of failing to maintain balconies, failing to repair roofs, and failing to replace plumbing systems.

The county is in the works of serving two more criminal summonses.

8News has learned the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) paid the owners of the Essex Village Apartment Complex more than $4.6 million last year to subsidize rent at the housing complex and more than $2 million so far this year.

But in January, Essex Village failed a HUD inspection.

Last month, a pregnant woman fell through a balcony at the apartment complex.

Essex’s owners have not returned 8News’ calls but earlier this month, the company managing the property told 8News they had made some leadership changes and were working on repairs.

The owners of the section 8 housing are being called to appear in court July 14 and July 28.
