Long list of apartment problems has residents calling 8News for help

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Residents at Hawthorne Hall Apartments called 8News after trash started piling up for nearly two weeks.

“When you first come into the development you have all this trash garbage and things of that sort,” resident Patricia Middleton explained.

But residents said the trash is not the only complaint the leasing office is ignoring.

“We get the runaround,” Middleton said. “That’s all we get is the runaround.”

When you go to the center of the complex, the pool has turned completely green.

Then inside the apartments, tenants have a laundry list of repairs, from buckled floors to holes in the walls, ceilings and doors.

“When you ask them to fix something in your apartment they tell you they’re going to come it and then they never show up,” said resident Cynthia Bacon.

Residents told 8News the problems all started when a new management company bought the apartments this winter.

“If you ask me i think they slum landlords,” Bacon said.

Covenant Property Services is a management company based in New York. They now manage the property, as well as others on Chamberlayne Avenue.

“I really truly believe that they don’t care because they don’t have to live here,” Middleton said. “Put yourself in our place and then you will understand where we are coming from. We just want what we are entitled to.”

An employee in the leasing office told 8News the trash will be picked up by Friday, but she refused to answer why the trash problem started in the first place.

Residents said they do not believe their promises.

“I honestly don’t believe until I see it because it has been said before,” Middleton said.

8News also made calls to the property manager directly; those have not been answered or returned.
