Groundbreaking ceremony held Saturday for tribute to Virginia’s Native Americans

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A groundbreaking ceremony was held Saturday at Capitol Square for a new tribute to Virginia’s Native Americans.

The memorial is being called “Mantle.”

“Mantle” includes a reflecting pool with names of 20 rivers associated with tribes across the Commonwealth.

This tribute has been in the works since 2005 when the General Assembly first passed legislation to fund it.
