Albemarle Police investigating after domestic murder-suicide

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Albemarle County Police are investigating Sunday after a domestic murder-suicide that happened in Barboursville early Sunday.

Police received a call about a shooting around 4 a.m. in the 3500 block of Creels Mill Road, off of Gilbert Station Road.

When they arrived, they found 26-year-old Jordan Cavanaugh-Jackson shot to death.

Shortly thereafter, the victim’s brother, Christian Cavanaugh, 21, left the scene in a pick-up truck and was followed by police onto Stony Point Road.

A brief pursuit ended when Cavanaugh’s vehicle was found crashed in the 1700 block of Stoney Point Road.

When officers approached the vehicle, they found Cavanaugh dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

 

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information related to this case is asked to call the ACPD at 434-296-5807.

Police said that they believe this was an isolated event and that there is not threat to public safety as a result.
