Police identify man who died in early morning Bellemeade accident

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team have identified the person killed in this morning’s accident that happened in Bellemeade.

Police said that Davonja L. Clark, 20, of Trace Court, Chesterfield died after being ejected from his vehicle around 1:40 a.m. Friday morning.

Richmond Police began investigating after receiving a call at 1:40 a.m. Friday morning.

When they arrived at the scene in the 1600 block of Drewry Street, they found a white, 2013 Ford Fusion with front-end damage in a yard. This is near the intersection with MinfeeStreet and Presson Boulevard.

They found Clark’s body unresponsive on the nearby sidewalk.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon investigating, police determined Clark was driving southbound on Drewry Street when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole, tree and a fence and was ejected from the vehicle.

Police said that no foul play is suspected in the incident.

A medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Investigators had the area blocked off for hours Friday morning.

Crash Team investigators responded to the scene, where they interviewed witnesses and took measurements. The investigation is still on-going.
