Gr8 Weekend Events: Veggie Festival, Latino Festival, Plein Air, Hanover Maters, and more

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Whitney Harris tells you what’s going on this weekend in Central Virginia.

SATURDAY

Looking for a healthy, fresh snack? Head over to the 15th Annual Vegetarian Festival. This event is from noon to 6 p.m. at Bryant Park which is located at 4308 Hermitage Road in Richmond. Get ready for live music, cooking demonstrations, more than 100 vendors, tons of delicious goodies and even animal adoption opportunities! You’ll learn all about the vegan lifestyle and you’ll probably leave with a full stomach too! Plus, you’ll get some new recipes to try on your own. Last year’s festival featured veggie chicken, vegan nachos, and more.

Looking for something to jazz up your weekend? Stop by the RVA Latino Festival. Join Sacred Heart Catholic Church to celebrate with authentic Latino food, games for kids, live music and much more. It’s being held from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in Manchester on 1400 Perry Street in Richmond.

Haven’t got your fill of delectable eats and destinations in RVA? Take a trip on over to the Street Food Festival. Vendors will be serving their tastiest and best street food. There will also be drinks, art, wine tasting, beer trucks and local bands. It’s being held from noon to 9 p.m. at Brown’s Island on South 7th Street in Richmond.

SUNDAY 

Head over to Hanover Vegetable Farm to celebrate what makes them famous — their tomatoes. The Hanover Maters, Corks and Kegs Festival is Sunday. You can buy some of the first picked Hanover tomatoes. There will be local breweries and wineries, a corn hole tournament and even a tomato pie eating contest, plus live music, food, and sweet treats. It’s all from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 13580 Ashland Road in Ashland.

The 5th Annual  Plein Air Richmond continues Sunday as well. Thirty artists from across the US have been spending the week painting the best scenes in and around Richmond. Talk about sight-seeing! All proceeds from this event benefit the SPCA. Click here for a full list of events. You can check out the artwork from noon to 4 p.m. at the Brazier Gallery located at 1616 West Main Street.

Today you can also take part in the Summertime Fine Yoga and Wellness Detox Workshop. Inhale the positive energy and exhale all those toxins as you learn the benefits and tools needed to cleanse the body, mind and spirit — with yoga and fasting. There will be some light refreshments, demos, samples and recipes. It’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1100 Hull Street in Richmond.
