RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) — The City of Richmond’s natural gas division is changing its name to Richmond Gas Works in an effort to broaden its customer base.
City officials, including Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney, made the announcement as a result of a multi-year effort to align the brand with its customers’ needs.
“Richmond Gas Works is more than a utility; the people here keep the Richmond region running,” Mayor Stoney said. “A stronger Richmond Gas Works makes for a more powerful and profitable region. I am pleased with this new direction and eager to see the organization continue its growing impact on the region.”
The gas utility serves Henrico County and northern Chesterfield County as well as the City of Richmond.
Bob Steidel, Director of the Department of Public Utilities says the new identity differentiates the gas division from its Department of Public Utility counterparts and allows the organization to be more competitive.
“We know that customers have options when it comes to their energy needs,” said Steidel. “We want to make sure customers are informed about their options and have a positive customer experience every time they interact with Richmond Gas Works.”
Richmond Gas Works will begin rolling out the new brand this summer. Customers can expect to see the new brand on employee uniforms and fleet vehicles.
Customers’ account numbers will remain the same to keep the transition as seamless as possible.
