DETROIT (WRIC/AP) — Petersburg native Trey Songz appeared in a Detroit courtroom Tuesday for a hearing on assault charges against a police officer.

During a performance at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena back in December, the singer reportedly became belligerent on stage after the venue ended his concert. An officer said Songz punched him in the head, causing a concussion.

Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, is charged with aggravated assault and assaulting a police officer.

He is scheduled to go on trial in September.
