Missing Dinwiddie man with dementia found

UPDATE: Mr. Mason has been located, according to police. He was found walking along an abandoned railroad bed around 7 p.m. Wednesday north of the Dinwiddie County Courthouse.  He has been transported to Southside Regional Medical Center as a precaution.


DINWIDDIE, Va. (WRIC) — The Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing man.

Police say Audie Mason, 58-years-old, walked away from a group home in the 15000 block of Keelers Mill Road in the DeWitt area of Dinwiddie County, where he was last seen at approximately 6 p.m. Monday walking away into the woods.

Mason is described by police as being 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 176 pounds. The only clothing description that investigators have at this time is that he was wearing glasses and a green baseball cap with a crown emblem on the side.

Mason suffers from dementia. He is in need of his medication, which police say he left behind at the group home.
