Sports community rallies around flooded Lakeside Youth Baseball complex

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)  —  Days after flood waters rushed through the Lakeside Youth Baseball complex, people are coming together to help get the organization back on its feet.

On Friday, a nearby creek overflowed its banks and waterlogged the league’s equipment room and concession stand. It destroyed refrigerators, freezers and food. The water saturated catchers’ gear and baseball gloves.

Two sports leagues, the Glen Allen Youth Athletic Association (GAYAA) and Tuckahoe Little League (TLL) are both lending Lakeside a helping hand. GAYAA is donating baseball gear and concessions stock. TLL is donating baseball equipment too.

Volunteers will be meeting up at the complex at 10 am on Saturday to help clean up the concession stand.

The flood forced two All Star Tournaments scheduled at Lakeside to be relocated.

Kids will now be competing at RF&P Park in Glen Allen and Dorey Park in eastern Henrico.
