That’s a wrap! Video Fan closes after 3 decades

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia’s oldest independent video store has closed its doors after 31 years in Richmond’s Fan District.

The video store announced on its Facebook page Monday that it was closing, effective immediately.

Video Fan has struggled for years to keep itself in business. In past years, the video store has launched multiple fundraising campaigns in an attempt to keep its doors open.

In 2014, Video Fan launched a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $35,000 which helped the store renew its lease.

The following year, an Indiegogo campaign was launched in hopes of raising nearly $10,000 that would go towards several months rent, website hosting, campaign fees and credit card processing.

In the Facebook post announcing their immediate closing, Video Fan said it could no longer sustain business at its Strawberry Street location.

“Thank you for the love you’ve shown over 31 incredible years,” the post continued. “We will miss you.”
