Flying Squirrels’ broadcaster Sam Ravech following in father’s footsteps

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Flying Squirrels’ broadcaster Sam Ravech is beginning a new career in the River City calling minor league baseball games. Fresh out of Pepperdine University, the 22 year old has earned his current position, yet will recognize some luck was involved to land in the Commonwealth.

Sam’s father is Karl Ravech, veteran ESPN anchor and host of ‘Baseball Tonight’, who has brought his son along for the ride of his sports broadcasting career. Like his father, Sam has begun his career in Eastern League AA Minor League Baseball. Karl started with a sports anchor position in Harrisburg, Pa. It was there that he met Flying Squirrels’ VP & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell and the two formed an instant bond.

When the position with the Flying Squirrels broadcast team was vacant, Sam Ravech reached out and his father’s connection got him an interview, the rest is history.
