Fire rips through Chesterfield County strip mall, no injuries reported

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Chesterfield fire officials are investigating after a fire happened at a strip mall on Midlothian Turnpike Sunday evening.

Fire officials said that they got a call around 8 p.m. about smoke coming from what appeared to be a nail salon in the Chippenham Square strip mall in the 7400 block of Midlothian Turnpike.

When they arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the building.

Fire officials said that they believe the blaze began in a building adjacent to a nail salon but did not specify which.

Because of the size of the building involved, a second unit was called to the scene.

Crews are currently in the process of checking the scene but said that they do not believe that anybody was inside as the businesses were closed.

The fire marshall has been called to the scene to investigate the fire’s cause.

Otherwise, officials confirmed that three businesses in the strip mall experienced heat and smoke damage.
