VSP investigating fatal convenience store shooting in Lunenburg County

VICTORIA, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at a convenience store in the town of Victoria in Lunenburg County on Thursday.

Shortly after 9 p.m., police say Milton T. Gaither, 34, of Dinwiddie, Va., entered the Little B convenience store and displayed a handgun, demanding money. Police say shots were fired at some point as the suspect was fleeing the store.

Gaither continued across the parking lot and collapsed on 6th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The store employee was not injured in the shooting.

Police recovered both the Gaither’s and the store employee’s firearms at the scene as they continue their investigation.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Town of Victoria Police Department and Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office. State Police is also working in conjunction with the Lunenburg County Commonwealth’s Attorney.
