Henrico police officer gives kidney to her father

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico Police Officer Kerry Hansen has given her father the ultimate Father’s Day gift: A new kidney.

Last year, Officer Hansen received the devastating news that her father’s kidneys were failing. She was a match and chose to donate one of her kidneys to him. On April 26, 2017, after 6 months of testing, the transplant was made.

Henrico County Police shared the family’s story on Facebook. Officer Hansen is returning soon in her role as Community Officer and Firearms Instructor after a 6-week recovery. She encourages everyone to become an organ donor.
