RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The official groundbreaking ceremony for the major expansion of the Virginia War Memorial is set to take place Friday afternoon.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Dorothy McAuliffe are among those who will be attending.
The ceremony kicks off the construction of the expanded Shrine of Memory and Paul and Phyllis Galanti Educational Center, plus additional parking.
According to the press release, the expanded facilities will allow names of Virginians lost in current conflicts to be added to Shrine of Memory walls and add a distance learning center, lecture call, new exhibit galleries and office space.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony which begins at 4 p.m.
