ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Deputies have arrested the man wanted in connection with a shooting that happened in Orange County Wednesday morning.

Authorities say a person was shot shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Chesterfield Road in the Somerset Ridge subdivision.

The main road leading into the Somerset Ridge subdivision was closed for a period of time due to concerns of the shooter still being in the area. After hours of investigation, it was later determined the shooting suspect, 24-year-old Alonte M. Pernell of Locust Grove, Virginia, was not longer in the area.

He was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police say at approximately 4:30 a.m. Thursday, the DC Metro Police Department arrested Pernell. He is scheduled to appear in a D.C. Court on Thursday to begin the extradition process.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
