Virginia State Police identify 24-year-old victim in fatal hit and run

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police just identified the victim who died in a fatal hit and run that happened on Route 288 southbound early Saturday morning.

Police say that Matthew R. Santiago, 24 of North Chesterfield County got out of the car along Route 288 to check on a mechanical issue around 1:15 a.m. While he was out of the vehicle, he was hit by a dark-colored pickup truck which fled the scene.

Santiago died at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Virginia State Police Trooper M. Meyer and the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction team.
