COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus, Ohio Police are investigating a suspicious death, an attempted kidnapping and a double homicide, all in and around the same address over the past two weeks.
On February 13, around 9 a.m., Cody Campbell was found dead at 68 Whitethorne Avenue Homicide detective Sgt. Dave Sicilian says the cause of death was not immediately apparent and is still classified as suspicious.
“Is it drug related, is it natural causes or did he die at the hands of someone else?” Sicilian asked rhetorically. “So those are the three things that we need to determine. We don’t have enough information at this point to absolutely go in one of those directions.”
Police say early Thursday afternoon, 25-year-old Antwan Hutchinson attempted to kidnap a man off the street in front of Campbell’s home. Police say Hutchinson pulled out a gun but the victim was able to escape. Police also identified 24-year-old Michael Favors as accompanying Hutchinson during the attempted kidnapping.
Sicilian said the nature of the crime is troubling.
“You’re doing this in the middle of the day,” Sicilian said. “Anyone can see this happening. So it’s pretty bold to us and I don’t think he (Hutchinson).was worried. So we believe he is very dangerous so we need to get him off the street.”
Later Thursday afternoon, police were called back to the same address on Whitethorn. They found Cody Campbell’s mother, 56-year-old Sidney Campbell, and 31-year-old Marie Stamp shot to death inside the home.
Police say Hutchinson is wanted in connection to the attempted kidnapping and that both Hutchinson and Favors are considered persons of interest in the homicides.
Anyone with information about either suspect is asked to call 911 or the CPD Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730.
