Dayton, GW Share Women’s Basketball Regular Season Title; Flyers Top Seed for A-10 Championship
UD Wins Two-Team Tiebreak to Claim Top Overall Seed
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Dayton and George Washington are the 2017 Atlantic 10 Conference women’s basketball regular season champions, finishing with a 13-3 league record. The Flyers, by virtue of a two-team tiebreaker, will be the top seed for the 2017 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship.
The 2017 A-10 Championship will feature a new, enhanced format, with six first-round games being played on campus sites, Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26 before heading to Richmond, Va., Friday, Mar. 3 through Sunday, Mar. 5, for the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship final games. The top two championship seeds, Dayton and GW will receive a bye, with the remainder of the field facing off in games hosted by seeds 3-8 for the first round.
The Flyers captured the No. 1 seed for the championship over GW due to having the higher winning percentage against the highest common opponent and will play at 11:00 am in the quarterfinals on Friday, Mar. 3 in a game televised by American Sports Network against either No. 8 seed VCU or No. 9 seed Richmond.
George Washington (20-8), the defending Atlantic 10 Champions, are the second seed and will face the winner of seventh-seeded Duquesne and No. 10 seed George Mason at 4:30 pm Friday. That game will also air on ASN.
Saint Joseph’s (15-13, 12-4 A-10) earned the third seed, winning the head-to-head tiebreaker against Saint Louis. The Hawks will host No. 14 seed Rhode Island in the first-round Saturday at 2:00 pm ET.
Saint Louis will receive the fourth seed for the championship. The Billikens finished the season with a record of 22-7 overall and 12-4 in the A-10, will host No. 13 seed Massachusetts Sunday at 3:00 pm ET.
Fordham finished 11-5 in league play and 20-10 overall to take the fifth seed. The Rams will play Davidson at home Sunday at 2:00 pm. La Salle earns the sixth seed after finishing the regular season with a record of 16-12 overall and 9-7 in league play. The Explorers will play St. Bonaventure Saturday at Noon.
Davidson and St. Bonaventure both completed the regular season with a record of 4-12. St. Bonaventure was tabbed the 11th seed as result of a head-to-head tiebreaker over Davidson, who was slotted 12th.

First round games will be streamed live on the A-10 Network through Atlantic10.com. Friday’s quarterfinals will be televised on ASN and streamed on americansporstnet.com/live. Saturday’s semifinals will air at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network, while Sunday’s championship final will be on ESPNU and streamed on WatchESPN at noon.
