NASCAR announces “Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series,” coming in 2017

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WRIC) — NASCAR’s new era of premiere series racing was officially given a name Monday evening. On Twitter, they announced the title would be the “Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series,” coming in 2017.

The name change is part of NASCAR’s multi-year contract with Monster Energy that was announced on December 1st, 2016. In the deal, Monster Energy owns the rights to the premiere series race and all-star race naming rights and becomes NASCAR’s official energy drink.

Reaction from the drivers seems to be well-received.

The 2017 NASCAR season begins on February 26th, 2017 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL, for the Daytona 500.
