Highland Springs’ Chris Thaxton continues to inspire

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Highland Springs senior Chris Thaxton has inspired people far beyond the reaches of his community and school. During an interview with 8News after receiving the Bill Dudley scholarship from the Touchdown Club of Richmond, Thaxton revealed a high school football player from Alabama messaged him on Instagram to tell Chris how much Thaxton’s story has inspired him.

The story of how Chris promised his late mother Angela Johnson, who died in November after battling stage four bladder cancer, a 2nd consecutive 5A state championship; then caught the game-winning touchdown in the title game to fulfill his promise.

Over the weekend, Chris received his first collegiate offer from UVA-Wise and it is expected he’ll be receiving a few more in the coming months before signing day.
