‘Coats for Kids’ campaign helps keep 14-15K warm this holiday season

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – It’s an 8News tradition — every year, we follow Puritan Cleaners as they work to get coat donations at all of their locations.

On Monday, the donations from the annual ‘Coats for Kids‘ campaign came to a beautiful end as Puritan put out thousands of coats at this year’s Salvation Army Christmas Center for area kids in need.

8News proudly partners each year with Puritan, which collects, cleans and repairs gently-used coats donated by area families, businesses and schoolchildren. The Salvation Army helps make sure the coats go to families with genuine need.

6d029b56aa2d450f9924f29449b0b26aAccording to Puritan Cleaners Owner Gary Glover, owner/president of Puritan, roughly 14,000-15,000 coats were donated this year.

“5,000 families are qualified to come through this year and each family has a couple of kids, so they’re going to serve 15,000 people and every member of the family gets a coat,” Glover told 8News. “That’s what’s so great about it.”

This is a developing story. Stay with 8News online and on air for the latest updates.
