Sussex Central can’t complete perfect season, falls 49-6 to Riverheads

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Seeking the school’s first state title since 2003 and also seeking to complete a perfect season, the Sussex Central Tigers fell one game short Saturday in Salem. Riverheads defeated Sussex Central 49-6 in the 1A state championship game.

The game began well enough for the Tigers, who faked a punt before Malik Delk’s wide receiver screen pass to Tyrese Rose went 15 yards for a touchdown. The Tigers failed to convert the two-point conversion, however, and Riverheads scored the game’s final 49 points.
