VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were killed and six people were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash Friday on Interstate 264, just west of Birdneck Road in Virginia Beach.

According to state police, a 2004 Chrysler Pacific was traveling west on I-264, when it crossed through the median and hit a 2001 Lexus heading eastbound. The impact of that crash caused the Chrysler to flip in the air and strike a 2011 Honda van, that was also traveling east on I-264, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

The passenger in the Chrysler who died at the scene has been identified as 20-year-old Brittany Landers-Morgan. The driver of the Chrysler, 44-year-old Sherita Morgan was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Lexus was also pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 63-year-old Stephen Austin of Albemarle, N.C. His 64-year-old wife was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda, Arif B. Salman, 53, was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries along with his 46-year-old wife and two children, ages 9 and 7.

The Virginia State Police Chesapeake Division’s Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the ongoing crash investigation.

All lanes of I-264 were shut down at First Colonial Road four nearly six hours. The interstate has since reopened.
