RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — You may have noticed some pretty big performers are scheduled to be in Richmond in the upcoming months, including country star Luke Bryan. 8News spoke with SMG, the folks responsible for bringing all these people in, to find what is takes to attract these big names.
SMG says they look for acts that will bring more and more people into Richmond.
“Our goal is to always bring as many good acts to Richmond as we can,” said Dwight Johnson, the general manager of SMG.
And by all accounts, SMG is doing just that. A look at the Coliseums line-up over the coming months is jam-packed — Luke Bryan, Michael W Smith, Amy Grant, Jeff Dunham, and not to mention the circus, arena racing, and monster trucks. Plus Garth Brooks just performed last month.
“I think Richmond is a great place to be, I think it’s an up and coming city when it comes to the new and the young talent that we have around the city,” said Johnson.
Outside the Coliseum, SMG is also bringing big acts to their other facility Altria Theater, like Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Chris Rock.
“We work hard every year to try and get more additional acts here,” said Johnson
SMG says having two mega stars like Garth Brooks and Luke Bryan helps attract even more talent to play the coliseum.
“It always helps, it has an impact on what other artist see,” said Johnson.
Luke Bryan tickets just went on sale Friday morning.
