HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Firefighters have been called to the Richmond Yacht Basin complex where multiple boats and sheds have caught fire.

Authorities say there are about a dozen boats on fire, and that the smoke is thick in the air. Initial reports said that up to 30 boats had been damaged, but officials have confirmed this number was inaccurate.

8News reporter Roxie Bustamante was first to the scene.

Roxie reports that police said it will take hours to get the fire under control.

8News spoke with Max Walraven, the president of the Richmond Yacht Basin. He said that all the people who were on boats were able to get off safely and that some burning boats are still drifting down the river.

Henrico Fire later confirmed that everyone has been accounted for and there were no injuries in the fire.

However, 12-15 boats were damaged by the fire, as well as several sheds in the area.

The Richmond Yacht Basin is located at 9950 Hoke Brady Road in Henrico County’s East End.

Crews from Henrico County, Chesterfield County, RIC Airport, James City, Virginia Beach, Newport News, USCG, EPA and the Virginia Port Authority all responded to the fire.

Henrico Fire said that the owners of property located at the marina will not be allowed on the property until Saturday at noon.
