Christmastime means party-time at the theaters this weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The holidays are upon us and that means it’s time for those festive holiday get-togethers. I’ll bet most don’t look anything like the one in “Office Christmas Party.” The over-the-top comedy stars Jennifer Aniston as the company CEO looking to close down her brother’s branch. Played by T.J. Miller, he and his buddies plan an epic rager in hopes of landing the account that will save the office. The comedy costars Kate McKinnon, Jason Bateman and Courtney B. Vance. It’s rated R.

“Miss Sloane” finds Jessica Chastain playing a Beltway insider who knows how to get things done. She’s one of the most powerful lobbyists in D.C. and often gets her way on legislation. But, she may have met her match as she pushes for gun control. The drama costars Gugu Mbatha Raw and John Lithgow. It’s rated R.

Richmond is getting “Manchester by the Sea” this weekend. The film is earning a lot of early awards buzz. It stars Casey Affleck as a lonely handyman who returns to his hometown to take care of his teen nephew after the boy’s father dies. Returning to his hometown, the site of a horrible family tragedy, stirs up lots of emotions for him. The drama costars Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler. It’s rated R.

“Nocturnal Animals” stars Amy Adams as an L.A. art gallery owner who is coming face to face with ghosts in her past. Her ex, played by Jake Gyllenhall, has written a book and she wonders what part of their relationship may have inspired some of the plot turns in the bloody crime novel. The film co-stars Michael Shannon. It’s rated R.
