Spiders arrive in Spokane, prepare for Eastern Washington

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Spiders left Central Virginia Thursday afternoon and by now have arrived in Spokane, Washington ahead of their FCS Quarterfinal match up with the Eastern Washington Eagles.

There are a number of distractions facing Richmond. A few of them included but are not limited to: finals week, expected temperatures in the mid 20s with daily snow fall, a migraine-inducing red field known as the inferno, and questions about the future of Head Coach Danny Rocco.

The players will take exams Friday and have a walk through at roughly the same time Friday as the game will take place Saturday. Coach Rocco hopes to clear their minds after exams and get them acclimated to what could be brutal conditions for an outdoor football game.

“The weather is always a factor,” Rocco said Wednesday. “It cannot be an excuse.”

As for his future, Rocco did not go much into detail other than to say he had met with University of Richmond President Dr. Ronald Crutcher, and Rocco called that meeting “healthy.”
