PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) – A tractor-trailer crash in Petersburg has shut down South Crater road near Wythe Street Tuesday morning.
According to Petersburg Police, first responders arrived at the accident scene at 5 a.m. The driver of a tractor-trailer was trying to turn right out of the parking lot of Jade Garden, jumping the curb and struck a power pole, causing wires to wrap around the trailer. The driver is okay.
The damage to the trailer caused fuel to leak onto the roadway. Crews on scene trying to prevent the fuel from running into a nearby storm drain.
Petersburg Police have South Crater Road between East Wythe Street and Mingea Street blocked off.
Dominion Power reports only one business, Jade Garden, is without power. However, because of the road being closed, Crater Road Veterinary Hospital will be closed for the remainder of the day.
Dominion Power said that the weather is causing some delay in repairing the power pole and wires but hope to have power restored by 5 p.m., Tuesday night.
